The Burn

Location from When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker

The sun-scorched kingdom of fire and dragon-flame — where Sabersythes nest in volcanic heat and a warrior-king rules from a throne he took by force.

The Burn smells like sulfur and forge-smoke and sun-baked stone. The heat is oppressive and constant — a physical weight that presses down on anyone not born to it. Sound carries differently here: metal rings sharper, voices echo off stone walls, and the distant rumble of volcanic activity provides a permanent bass note beneath every conversation. Despite the harshness, there is a fierce beauty to The Burn. The Boltanic Plains glow gold at sunset. The forges of Dhomm produce metalwork that rivals art. The warrior culture values directness and honor in a way that makes the political games of The Shade feel alien and repulsive. Under Kaan's rule, The Burn is harsh but fair — a place where strength is respected but cruelty is not tolerated. Outsiders from colder kingdoms find it suffocating; those born here find everywhere else unbearably dull.

Appearance

A vast, sun-blasted landscape of scorched earth, volcanic mountains, and heat-hazed horizons. The sky burns copper at dawn and blood-orange at dusk. Rivers of molten rock thread through the deeper territories. Architecture is heavy stone and dark metal, built to withstand both dragonfire and the relentless sun. The air shimmers with heat even at night.
