Location from When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker
The Moonplume spawning grounds — the darkest, coldest crown of The Shade, where luminous dragons emerge from ice and the sky is so close you could touch the moons.
Netheryn is sacred and lethal. The cold here kills unprotected visitors within hours. The darkness is so complete that visitors from The Burn or The Fade are effectively blind — only Shade-born eyes and Moonplume glow provide navigation. It is the nursery of the most beautiful and most difficult dragons in the world. Moonplumes nest in ice formations, their eggs incubating in the coldest temperatures available — the exact opposite of Gondragh's volcanic heat. The silence here is absolute: no wind, no water, no sound except the soft chiming of ice crystals and the barely audible hum of Moonplume wings. Slàtra would have nested here. Coming here feels like visiting a dragon cathedral — reverent, ancient, and deeply alien.
The extreme northern reaches of The Shade, where the darkness is absolute and the cold is beyond mortal endurance without magical protection. Ice formations tower like cathedrals. The ground glitters with frost that never melts. The only light comes from Moonplume dragons — their luminous skin creates a ghostly, shifting radiance as they nest and nurture their young. The sky here is impossibly close, crowded with dragon-moons that seem within arm's reach.
