Gondragh

Location from When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker

The Sabersythe spawning grounds — where The Burn's dragons hatch in volcanic heat and the air shakes with the sound of a hundred unborn dragons cracking stone.

Gondragh is sacred ground in The Burn. The heat here is beyond anything the rest of the kingdom experiences — even Burn-born folk sweat through their clothes within minutes. The Sabersythes are at their most dangerous near their nesting grounds, and approaching without proper authority or dragon-charmer credentials is effectively suicide. The spawning grounds are also where young dragon riders attempt their first charming — a trial that results in bonding or death, with no middle ground. The sounds of Gondragh are unique: the rumble of volcanic vents, the cracking of eggshells, the deep territorial growls of nesting adults, and occasionally the high keen of a newly hatched Sabersythe taking its first breath of superheated air.

Appearance

A volcanic caldera region pockmarked with nesting sites carved into warm stone. The ground radiates heat. Sabersythe eggs rest in thermal vents and natural hot springs, their shells thick as armor. Adult Sabersythes patrol the perimeter with territorial aggression — tusked heads swinging at any perceived threat to their young.
