Character from When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker
A Moonplume dragon who loved her rider so completely that when Elluin chose death, Slàtra wrapped around her and became a moon — and when that moon fell, a lost princess was reborn.
Slàtra is not a pet or a mount — she is a partner, a protector, and in the end, a cocoon. She was charmed by Elluin at age nine, which established a bond so deep that when Elluin chose to die rather than remain Tyroth's prisoner, Slàtra's response was to wrap around her and carry her skyward, petrifying into a moon with Elluin preserved inside. This act — a dragon becoming a moon not from death but from love — is unprecedented. When that moon eventually fell and shattered (the titular hatching), Elluin emerged alive but without memories, and Slàtra was scattered into shards across the landscape. Kaan collected every piece. Whether Slàtra can be restored or is truly gone is one of the series' central questions. Her bond with Raeve/Elluin persists as phantom echoes — a pull toward Moonplumes, an inexplicable comfort in the cold.
A Moonplume dragon — luminous leathery skin in shades of pearl and iridescent grey. Large black glittering eyes, rounded face, long elegant neck, and a tail of silken strands that trail behind like captured starlight. Skin burns in direct sunlight. In her petrified moon form, she was a sphere of crystallized dragonbone orbiting the world.
