The White Tower's city — a gleaming island metropolis on the River Erinin, center of Aes Sedai power for three thousand years, and the most politically significant city in the Westlands.
Tar Valon exists because the White Tower exists — the city grew around the seat of Aes Sedai power and has been sustained by it ever since. It's the richest, most cosmopolitan city in the Westlands, with banks, libraries, and markets that draw people from every nation. The Tower Guards maintain order, and the Aes Sedai's presence ensures that the city is safer than any fortress. During the Tower schism, the city fractured — rebel Aes Sedai besieged it, the Seanchan raided it, and Egwene had to stitch it back together. The scars healed quickly because the Tower's power makes healing easy. The political scars took longer.
An island city connected by massive bridges, with Ogier-built walls that have never been breached. The White Tower rises from its center — bone-white, impossibly tall, visible for miles in every direction. The streets are broad and well-maintained, the buildings are elegant, and the entire city radiates wealth and order. Everything is slightly too perfect, which is what happens when channelers shape a city for three millennia.
