Shadar Logoth

Location from The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan

A dead city consumed by its own hatred — Mordeth's paranoia transformed an entire civilization into a trap that kills anything that enters, friend or foe.

Shadar Logoth was Aridhol — a nation that fought the Shadow so viciously that it became something equally evil. The counselor Mordeth convinced the people that any tactic was justified against the Dark One, and their paranoia and hatred consumed them from within. The city is a monument to the danger of fighting evil by becoming it. Mashadar — the killing fog — is the city's hatred given physical form. Padan Fain absorbed Mordeth's spirit here and became something uniquely dangerous. Rand used the city's evil to cleanse saidin — destroying Shadar Logoth in the process by channeling the taint into the city and letting the two evils annihilate each other.

Appearance

A ruined city that looks intact from a distance — buildings stand, streets are clear, but nothing lives here. At night, Mashadar — a luminous fog of concentrated malice — flows through the streets, killing anything it touches. The silence is absolute and oppressive.

Also known as: Shadar Logoth, Aridhol
