Sammael seized control as Lord Brend, using Compulsion to take the throne. After his death, Rand claimed the Laurel Crown and used Illian as a power base.
A prosperous coastal nation with marshy lowlands and busy trading ports. The capital is built on islands connected by bridges, giving it a distinctive waterborne character. Illian's architecture is ornate and trade-wealthy.
