A nation defined by political intrigue — the Great Game of Houses (Daes Dae'mar) permeates every interaction, and nothing in Cairhien is ever what it appears to be.
Cairhien is where politics replaced warfare as the primary form of competition. Daes Dae'mar — the Great Game of Houses — means that every conversation, gift, and social interaction carries hidden meaning. Cairhienin nobles are shorter than most Westlanders and compensate with towering ambitions and Byzantine plotting. The nation was devastated by the Aiel War (triggered when King Laman cut down Avendoraldera, the gift tree) and never fully recovered.
A landlocked nation of orderly farms and fortified estates. The landscape is flatter and drier than Andor, with the distinctive Cairhienin architecture — severe, geometric, and designed to project authority. The Sun Throne sits in the capital city.
