The Choedan Kal were the nuclear weapons of the Age of Legends — sa'angreal so powerful that using them could destroy the world. They were hidden and never used during the War of Power because both sides feared the consequences. Rand and Nynaeve used them to cleanse saidin — channeling the taint from saidin through the male Choedan Kal into Shadar Logoth, where it was annihilated by the city's evil. Rand destroyed the male access key afterward, recognizing that no one should have that much power. The temptation of the Choedan Kal — to solve every problem with overwhelming force — is one of the series' central warnings.
Two enormous statues — a man holding a crystal sphere and a woman holding another — buried since the Breaking. The access keys are small ter'angreal statuettes that link to the great statues. When activated, the Power flowing through them is visible as columns of light reaching into the sky.
