Nynaeve al'Meara

Character from The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan

The youngest Wisdom the Two Rivers ever had — a healer with a legendary temper, a braid she tugs when furious, and channeling strength that rivals the Forsaken. She Healed madness itself.

Nynaeve's defining characteristic is that she cares so intensely about the people she protects that the emotion comes out as rage. She left the Two Rivers to protect 'her people' from Moiraine, and she never stopped protecting them — she just expanded her definition of who her people are until it included everyone. She's the most powerful female channeler alive and she learned the hard way — through a block that required fury to channel, through Aes Sedai politics she despised, and through enemies who underestimated the angry village healer. She broke her block, helped Rand cleanse saidin of the taint, and Healed gentling and stilling — feats that the entire White Tower considered impossible. She married Lan Mandragoran, the uncrowned king of a dead nation, because of course she did — Nynaeve does not do anything by halves. She is rude, impatient, hypocritical about her own temper, and the person you most want in your corner when the world is ending.

Appearance

Dark-eyed with a long dark braid she pulls when angry — which is often. She's not tall but carries herself with the fierce authority of someone who spent years as the village Wisdom telling grown men what to do. She dresses practically, pulls her braid, crosses her arms, and glares with an intensity that makes Aes Sedai flinch. Her block — she could only channel when angry — shaped her entire fighting style into something explosive and overwhelming.
