Moiraine Damodred

Character from The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan

An Aes Sedai of the Blue Ajah who spent twenty years searching for the Dragon Reborn — sacrificed herself to stop Lanfear, was rescued from the Finn, and returned diminished but unbroken.

Moiraine is the reason the story happens. She found the Dragon Reborn, guided him out of the Two Rivers, kept him alive through the first critical years, and shaped events with the patient precision of someone who has dedicated her entire adult life to a single mission. She's calm, controlled, and absolutely ruthless when the mission requires it — she would sacrifice anyone, including herself, if the alternative is the Dark One winning. She entered the doorway ter'angreal and was trapped by the Finn for years — a sacrifice she made knowingly to stop Lanfear from killing Rand. When Mat and Thom rescued her, she returned with reduced channeling ability and a husband (Thom, whom she married because she'd had years with nothing to do but think about what actually mattered to her). She speaks precisely, acts decisively, and maintains a serene Aes Sedai exterior that conceals a Cairhienin noblewoman's capacity for political calculation. She is the best of what Aes Sedai can be — competent, dedicated, and willing to pay the price.

Appearance

Small and graceful, with dark hair and large dark eyes. She carries herself with an Aes Sedai's ageless calm that makes her seem taller than she is. She wears a blue stone — her kesiera — on her forehead, marking her as Cairhienin nobility. After her rescue from the Finn, she's thinner, quieter, and her power is reduced — but the steel underneath is unchanged.
