Character from The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan
The Spider — a Forsaken who operates through manipulation, espionage, and indirect attack rather than direct confrontation, and who was humiliated by Nynaeve in Tel'aran'rhiod.
Moghedien earned her name — the Spider — by operating from the shadows. In the Age of Legends, she was an intelligence operative who infiltrated, manipulated, and destroyed from within. She doesn't fight battles; she undermines foundations. She doesn't confront enemies; she poisons their allies. Her rivalry with Nynaeve is one of the series' best dynamics because Nynaeve is her opposite — direct, confrontational, and too stubborn to be manipulated. Nynaeve defeated her in Tel'aran'rhiod through raw willpower, captured her with an a'dam, and used her as a channeling resource. The humiliation nearly destroyed Moghedien, and her hatred of Nynaeve became personal in a way her other enmities never were. She's a coward by Forsaken standards — she runs from fights she might lose — which makes her more dangerous, not less, because she only engages when she's certain of victory.
Dark-haired, ordinary-looking — deliberately so, because being memorable is dangerous in her line of work. She could be any woman in any crowd. Her unremarkability is her camouflage. When cornered, her expression shifts from forgettable to something cold and calculating that reveals the predator underneath.
