Lanfear

Character from The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan

The most powerful female channeler in history — she helped drill the Bore into the Dark One's prison, loved Lews Therin with obsessive fury, and has been trying to reclaim him across three thousand years and two lives.

Lanfear was Mierin Eronaile, the researcher who drilled the Bore that freed the Dark One. She joined the Shadow partly from ambition and partly because Lews Therin chose another woman, and she's spent three thousand years proving that a genius-level channeler with a grudge is the most dangerous thing in any age. She is obsessive, brilliant, and utterly incapable of accepting rejection. She tried to seduce Rand as both Selene and Lanfear, offering him power, partnership, and the Dark One's throne if he would stand beside her. When he refused, she tried to kill him and Aviendha. Moiraine tackled her through the doorway ter'angreal, and the Finn held them both. Reborn as Cyndane with reduced power, she burned with humiliation and redirected her fury into service as Moridin's weapon. She is the tragedy of wasted brilliance — someone who could have been the greatest channeler of any Age, consumed by jealousy and pride.

Appearance

As Lanfear: the most beautiful woman in the world — tall, dark-haired, with pale skin and dark eyes that promise everything. Her beauty is a weapon she deploys consciously. As Selene: a mysterious noblewoman in white. As Cyndane: smaller, silver-haired, diminished in power but not in malice — a reduction that enraged her more than imprisonment.

Also known as: Lanfear, Selene, Cyndane, Mierin Eronaile, Daughter of the Night
