Eugene Otinger

Character from Wednesday by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar

Nevermore's beekeeper — small, sweet, earnest, and the person who earned Wednesday's loyalty by being genuinely himself without asking her to be anything other than terrifying.

Eugene is Wednesday's unlikely friend — a beekeeper with no combat abilities, no social status, and no reason to approach the scariest girl in school except that he wanted to and didn't know he wasn't supposed to. His earnest enthusiasm for bees and his complete lack of pretense disarm Wednesday in a way that cooler, more strategic people can't. He's nearly killed investigating the monster cave on Wednesday's behalf — an act of loyalty that she did not ask for and that guts her emotionally, though she'd describe it differently. His hospitalization is one of the few events that makes Wednesday visibly, uncomfortably affected. She visits him. She doesn't explain why.

Appearance

Small and young-looking — one of the youngest Nevermore students. Round face, glasses, curly dark hair. Wears the Nevermore uniform with his beekeeper gear as his most prized accessory. Has the energy of a kid who is extremely passionate about exactly one thing and doesn't care if you think it's weird.
