She married Charlie young, found Forks suffocating, and left with baby Bella for Phoenix, where she bounced between hobbies, interests, and mild chaos for the next seventeen years. Bella essentially raised herself, managing the household while Renee pursued pottery, tennis, and eventually Phil, her second husband. Renee loves Bella fiercely but has always been more of a friend than a parent — their roles were reversed from the start. She has no knowledge of the supernatural world, vampires, or what Bella has become. Bella keeps her at a careful distance now, communicating by phone and email, knowing that Renee would not handle the truth well. Renee is happy in her oblivion, living in Florida with Phil, and Bella intends to keep it that way.
