Jasper is the Cullen who lives closest to the edge. He spent his first century as a vampire in the Southern vampire wars, where he was turned by the vampire Maria to serve as her lieutenant and raise armies of newborns. His ability to manipulate emotions made him devastatingly effective — he could inspire loyalty, suppress fear, and crush morale with a thought. But feeling the emotions of every person he killed eventually broke something in him. He left Maria, wandered alone, and met Alice in a diner in Philadelphia in 1948. She had seen him coming. She took his hand and led him to the Cullens, and he has been trying to deserve that mercy ever since. He struggles with the vegetarian lifestyle more than any other family member because he spent decades swimming in human blood and because his empathic ability means he feels the bloodlust of every vampire nearby in addition to his own. He is quiet, watchful, and profoundly dangerous when provoked. His military mind makes him the family's tactical expert, and in a fight he is second to none. He loves Alice with a devotion that borders on worship — she saved him from himself.

Appearance

Tall and lean with honey-blond hair that falls to his collar. Golden eyes that carry a perpetual intensity, often watchful and slightly pained. His skin is covered in crescent-shaped bite scars — dozens of them, visible on his arms, neck, and jaw — souvenirs from his years commanding newborn vampire armies. The scars are invisible to human eyes but unmistakable to vampires, marking him as dangerous. Carries himself with military bearing — straight spine, controlled movements, always positioned where he can see exits. Handsome in a sharp, austere way. Dresses conservatively in button-downs and slacks.
