Chelsea

Character from Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

The Volturi's hidden weapon — Chelsea manipulates emotional bonds, strengthening loyalty to Aro and severing ties between enemies, making her the glue that holds the Volturi together.

Chelsea is arguably the most important member of the Volturi after the three leaders, because without her, the Volturi would not exist. Her ability to manipulate emotional bonds — strengthening loyalty, weakening attachments, severing connections — is what keeps the Guard faithful and prisoners compliant. She is the reason Marcus remains with the Volturi despite his mate's death, the reason captured vampires with useful gifts gradually come to serve Aro willingly, and the reason internal dissent never takes root. She works subtly and continuously, her influence so pervasive that most of the Guard do not realize their loyalty is partially artificial. Her power failed against the Cullens during the confrontation — their bonds were too genuine and too strong for her to sever, which shocked both her and Aro.

Appearance

Olive-skinned with dark hair and crimson eyes. Beautiful in the effortless way all vampires are, but unremarkable compared to the striking members of the Guard. Average height, slender. Wears the Volturi cloak. Moves quietly, unobtrusively — easy to overlook, which is exactly how she operates best.
