Billy Black

Character from Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

Jacob's wheelchair-bound father and Quileute elder — Billy knows the old legends are true and tried desperately to keep Bella away from the Cullens before it was too late.

Billy Black is the keeper of Quileute legends and Jacob's father. He knew what the Cullens were from the moment they returned to Forks and tried to warn Charlie, tried to warn Bella, tried everything short of breaking the treaty to keep his best friend's daughter away from vampires. He could not tell anyone the truth directly — the old treaty and tribal law forbade it — so he watched helplessly as Bella fell deeper into the supernatural world. He is close friends with Charlie Swan, which made the whole situation agonizing. When Jacob phased, Billy's worst fear and greatest pride collided — his son had become a protector of the tribe, but also inherited a dangerous, life-altering burden. He is wise, stubborn, and carries the authority of his bloodline quietly.
