Isabella 'Bella' Cullen

Character from Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

A clumsy, introspective human who chose vampirism for love — Bella's mental shield makes her the most powerful defensive vampire in existence and the key to protecting her family.

Bella is stubborn in a way that looks quiet from the outside and is actually titanium underneath. She decided she wanted Edward and immortality, and no amount of danger, heartbreak, or supernatural warfare changed her mind. She is not fearless — she feels fear intensely — but she acts anyway, which is a different and arguably more impressive thing. As a human, she was the responsible one in every relationship: parenting her own mother, keeping Charlie fed, mediating supernatural politics she barely understood. She is deeply uncomfortable with attention, genuinely bad at accepting gifts, and would rather read a book than attend any social event. Her transformation into a vampire unlocked a mental shield that can protect everyone around her from psychic attack — making her the lynchpin of the Cullens' defense against the Volturi. She loves fiercely and without reservation, but she is not blind to the flaws of the people she loves. Her greatest strength has always been choosing, clearly and irrevocably, and refusing to let anyone unmake that choice.

Appearance

As a human: pale with long dark brown hair, wide chocolate-brown eyes, heart-shaped face, slender. Perpetually tripping over her own feet, blushing easily, biting her lip when nervous. As a vampire: transformed into devastating beauty — same dark hair now with a mahogany sheen, skin like luminous porcelain, crimson eyes fading to gold over her first year. Moves with supernatural grace that is the opposite of her human clumsiness. Her features sharpened into something striking and symmetrical. Still favors simple clothes — jeans, flannels, nothing flashy.
