Alec is the complement to Jane — where she creates sensation, he removes it entirely. His gift is arguably even more terrifying than his sister's: a creeping mist of numbness that strips away sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste, leaving victims in total sensory deprivation. Unable to see or hear an attack coming, they are helpless. He is calmer than Jane, less prone to petulance, and approaches his duties with a clinical efficiency that makes him perhaps more unsettling. Like Jane, his loyalty to Aro is absolute — Aro saved them both from the pyre. Bella's shield also blocks his gift, which the Volturi found deeply concerning during the confrontation.
