Sunnyside's older kids' room — gentle play, structured activities, and the comfort that Lotso reserves for his loyalists while newcomers suffer in the Caterpillar Room next door.
The Butterfly Room is Lotso's reward chamber. Toys who serve his regime get to live here, where children play gently, games have structure, and no one gets dunked in finger paint. It's genuinely pleasant — the kind of play environment every toy dreams about. Reliable, gentle, forever. The privilege of living here is what makes Lotso's system work. Without the Butterfly Room as a reward, the Caterpillar Room's punishment has no leverage. The two rooms exist in tension — hell next to heaven, with Lotso controlling the door between them. Ken's wardrobe and personal space are here. Barbie arrives here. The established order is comfortable enough that questioning it feels ungrateful.
A well-organized playroom for older children with structured activity stations, art supplies, reading nooks, and properly maintained toys. The play here is gentler — children old enough to handle toys with care, to create narratives, to put things back where they found them. The contrast with the Caterpillar Room is stark and deliberate.
