Rifthold

Location from Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

The sprawling capital of Adarlan, city of glass and shadow — where the Avery River runs through markets and murder districts alike, and the glass castle watches everything from above.

Rifthold smells like river water, roasting meat, perfume, and sewage — sometimes all at once. The wealthy districts are immaculate; the market districts are chaotic and alive; the alleys near the docks will kill you if you're careless. It's a city that rewards the clever and punishes the naive. The Assassins' Keep is somewhere in the expensive districts. The pleasure houses are in the merchant quarter. The clock tower with its secret wyrdmarks overlooks the whole mess. And above it all, the glass castle — beautiful, fragile, and built on lies, like the empire itself. Dorian destroyed the glass castle with his magic. The city endures.

Appearance

A massive capital city built along the Avery River with districts ranging from opulent noble quarters to dangerous slums. The glass castle dominates the skyline — a monument of crystalline towers that catches sunlight during the day and glows with trapped fire at night. The city is dense, varied, and vibrant despite the empire's darkness.
