The Wyrdkeys

Item from Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas

Three ancient slivers of the Wyrdgate itself — artifacts of world-breaking power that can suppress all magic, open portals between dimensions, and either save or doom everything depending on who holds them.

The wyrdkeys are the axis around which the entire series turns. They were broken from the Wyrdgate — the barrier between worlds — by Erawan and his brothers to open doorways between the Valg dimension and Erilea. Used together, they can unmake the gate entirely, flooding the world with Valg. Used correctly, they can seal the gate forever. The King of Adarlan used them to suppress all magic on the continent. Aelin sought them to forge the Lock and seal the Wyrdgate permanently. Their power is absolute and their cost is staggering — forging the Lock required Aelin to pour her own life force into the seal. They are, perhaps, the most dangerous objects in the Maasverse — small enough to hide in a pocket, powerful enough to end a world.

Appearance

Three small, dark stone fragments that pulse with an otherworldly energy. They look deceptively simple — unremarkable pieces of dark stone that could be mistaken for ordinary rocks. Their power is felt rather than seen — a sense of wrongness, of displaced reality, that intensifies near them.
