Item from Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
The signature weapons of the Ironteeth witches — retractable iron claws and fangs that can shred armor, bite through bone, and make every witch a living weapon even without a blade in hand.
Iron teeth and nails are the Ironteeth witches' birthright — biological weapons that set them apart from Crochans and every other species. They're not grafted or enchanted; they're grown, part of the witch's body as naturally as human fingernails. In combat, they're devastatingly effective — a witch doesn't need a sword when her hands can shred chainmail and her bite can sever tendons. The iron also has symbolic weight: it represents the Ironteeth's covenant with cruelty, their choice of metal over flesh, weapon over warmth. Manon's decision to retract her iron nails during moments of compassion — choosing not to be a weapon — is one of the series' quietest and most powerful recurring gestures.
Retractable iron extensions that emerge from the witches' fingertips and gums — they look like natural iron growths, seamlessly integrated into the witch's body. When extended, the nails are curved and razor-sharp, several inches long. The teeth are pointed and metallic, replacing normal canines.
