Character from Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
A scheming court lady who was drugged, discarded, and implanted with a Valg stone — who used the demon's power to destroy Morath's towers in a final act of defiance that redeemed a life spent being used.
Kaltain began as the series' Mean Girl — ambitious, manipulative, scheming to marry Prince Dorian for power. She was easy to dismiss. The series then systematically destroyed her: drugged by the duke, discarded by court, and implanted with a Valg stone that gave her shadowfire but ate her from the inside. Her final act — detonating the shadowfire to destroy Morath's towers and giving Elide the third wyrdkey — is one of the series' most powerful reversals. The woman everyone underestimated chose destruction on her own terms. She didn't ask for redemption; she took it.
Once beautiful and immaculately groomed — the perfect court ornament. After Valg implantation, gaunt, hollow-eyed, and visibly wasting away, with the shadowfire's darkness flickering beneath her skin.
