Earth-Trisolaris Organization

Item from three-body-problem by

Global underground movement co-founded by Ye Wenjie and Mike Evans, dedicated to welcoming the Trisolaran invasion — and split bitterly between Adventists who want humanity erased and Redemptionists who want it saved.

The ETO is a religion of disappointment. Its members are people who looked at humanity, looked at what humanity does to itself and to its planet, and decided that they would rather be saved by something else — anything else. They include Nobel-track scientists, billionaires, military officers, and disillusioned environmentalists. Wenjie is its spiritual leader; Evans is its operational head; Pan Han, Shen Yufei and Keiko Yamasuki are public and private faces of its factions. The Adventists, led by Evans, want the Trisolarans to wipe humanity out. The Redemptionists believe Trisolaris should preserve humanity in some chastened form. The Survivors are looking out for themselves. Within Book 1 the organization is exposed for the first time — by the discovery of the Judgment Day's archive — and begins to come apart.

Appearance

Has no central building, no logo on uniforms — its presence in the world is a network of cells: a Frontiers of Science chapter here, a science commune there, a research-grade physicist sitting quietly in a Beijing apartment with a Three Body headset on. The closest thing to a flag is the Judgment Day, the converted tanker that serves as its operational core.
