Howe's Hardware

Location from The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman (comics), Frank Darabont (TV), Telltale Games

A big-box hardware store converted into Carver's fortified community — a functional labor camp where the shelves provide building materials and the leader provides the tyranny.

Howe's Hardware is the Telltale series' version of the Sanctuary — a community that functions through forced labor and fear. Carver runs it like a company town: everyone works, everyone follows rules, and punishment for dissent is swift and public. The hardware store setting is grimly practical — the community has unlimited access to building materials, tools, and equipment. But the resources serve the leader, not the people. Work quotas, guard patrols, and informant networks maintain Carver's control. Clementine and Kenny's group are recaptured and forced back into the system, and their escape is Season 2's central action sequence — using a herd that's been building outside the walls to cover their flight.

Appearance

A large hardware superstore surrounded by a reinforced fence topped with razor wire. The interior has been reorganized: one section serves as communal sleeping quarters, another as storage, another as a work area. The loading dock is the main entrance. Watchtowers improvised from scaffolding. The PA system broadcasts Carver's announcements. The garden center grows food. Shelving aisles have been partially cleared to create living spaces.
