Atlanta Camp

Location from The Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman (comics), Frank Darabont (TV), Telltale Games

A quarry campsite outside Atlanta where the first group of survivors gathered — a collection of tents and campfires that represented humanity's first, desperate attempt to wait out the apocalypse.

The camp smells like wood smoke, pine, and unwashed humanity. At night, the campfire is the only light for miles and it draws moths and walkers in equal measure. The quarry below provides water but the sound of it echoes strangely, masking approaching threats. During the day, the Georgia heat makes the clearing shimmer. The camp is never quiet — someone's always arguing about rationing, or kids are playing too loudly, or Shane is drilling the adults on self-defense. This is where it all started: Shane's leadership, the Atlanta supply runs, Glenn's heroics, Rick's arrival. It's also where the first walker attack killed Amy and proved that nowhere was safe without walls.

Appearance

A gravel quarry clearing surrounded by Georgia pine forest, overlooking a water-filled pit below. Tents and tarps arranged in a loose semicircle around a central campfire. Dale's RV parked at the perimeter like a sentry. Laundry lines strung between trees. A lookout position on the RV's roof provides a 360-degree view. The quarry walls provide natural elevation but the approaches from the treeline are exposed.
