The gorge near Springfield — officially the third most beautiful gorge in the state, and the site of Bart's most famous failed daredevil stunt.
Springfield Gorge is the site of one of the Golden Age's most replayed sequences — Bart's attempt to jump it on his skateboard, which failed, and Homer's subsequent attempt to be taken to safety, which also failed. Multiple times. The sequence is a masterpiece of escalating comedy. The gorge is otherwise a natural feature of Springfield's geography that is occasionally visited for recreation and more often visited because something or someone has been sent toward it.
A deep, rocky gorge with steep sides, a river at the bottom, and a ramp that Bart once built for a skateboard jump that did not go as planned. Signs at the edge indicate it is the third most beautiful gorge in the state, which suggests there are two more beautiful ones that Springfield residents have not visited.
