Springfield Elementary is the center of the show's school-age plots — Bart's pranks, Lisa's achievements, Skinner's inspections, Chalmers's visits. It is under-resourced in every department and over-stressed in every staff member. Its mascot is a purple puma. Its address is 19 Plympton Street, though this has been listed differently in different episodes. Its test scores are low. Its fourth-grade classroom is where Bart and Lisa are educated by a woman who has earned every cigarette. Despite everything, it functions. Barely, but it does.
A large, slightly weathered public school building with the institutional appearance of a facility that receives the municipal budget it deserves. The hallways are linoleum. The cafeteria has a lunch lady who has been there since anyone can remember. The boiler room is Willie's domain and should not be entered without permission.
