Springfield's Presbyterian-Lutheran church — where Ned Flanders worships fervently, the Simpsons appear at Christmas and Easter, and Reverend Lovejoy dispenses faith with diminishing enthusiasm.

The First Church of Springfield is the town's primary religious institution, and its congregation includes Ned Flanders (the most devout member) and the Simpsons (the least reliable attenders). It serves Springfield's ceremonial needs — weddings, funerals, Christmas, Easter — and Lovejoy's ongoing spiritual fatigue. Helen Lovejoy is the church's social director and the town's moral panic coordinator. She is more active than her husband and significantly more energized by the role.

Appearance

A traditional New England-style church with a white steeple visible from several blocks. Inside: wooden pews, stained glass windows, a pulpit where Lovejoy stands without the energy he started with. The churchyard is well-maintained.
