Troy has been doing this for a long time. He makes industrial films, infomercials, educational videos, and the occasional made-for-TV movie with the same professional enthusiasm, regardless of material quality. He introduces himself as 'Troy McClure — you may remember me from...' and names films that are always specific and always slightly wrong. He briefly married Selma Bouvier to revive his career and found, to his own surprise, something real in it. The episode 'A Fish Called Selma' is the only time the mask comes off, and it's worth it. He is a Phil Hartman character. He retired with Hartman. His absence from Season 10 onward is part of what makes the Golden Age distinct.
Square-jawed, ruggedly handsome in a network-television sort of way, with ginger hair and the kind of face that looks like it was designed by committee for maximum trustworthiness. He wears his suit like a costume. He shakes hands with both hands.
