Selma Bouvier

Character from The Simpsons by Matt Groening / Fox

Marge's other twin sister: chain-smoking DMV worker, serial divorcée, and a woman who wants love badly enough to have married Sideshow Bob, Troy McClure, and others in successive attempts.

Selma wants what Marge has — a real partner, a real family — with a yearning that she has never quite learned to hide under the cynicism. Her marriages have been catastrophic: to Hutz, to McClure, briefly to Sideshow Bob, to Homer in Las Vegas, each time approaching with hope and each time collapsing in the expected ways. She adopted Ling after Chinese adoption, which gave her what she'd been looking for. This worked. She is a good mother in the way of someone who has finally figured out the question. Her dislike of Homer is genuine and specific, but she has more warmth in her than Patty, and it surfaces at intervals.

Appearance

Identical twin to Patty in most respects — same hair, same build, same settled expression of low expectations met. She tends to hold her cigarette lower. She wears the look of someone who has been on several first dates in the last year and is waiting to see how this one goes.
