Chief Wiggum's son and Springfield Elementary's most reliably unparseable student — a boy who exists at the outer limit of what words mean.
Ralph says things that should not follow from what preceded them and that somehow illuminate something anyway. His mind operates in a different register from the other Springfield children — whether this is diagnosed, undiagnosed, or simply how he is has never been clarified, and this ambiguity is part of what makes him work. He has 'picked a winner' and told Lisa his cat's breath smells like cat food and declared that 'when I grow up I'm gonna be a principal or a caterpillar.' His father is the chief of police, who protects him with the uncomplicated devotion of someone who does not always know what his son is saying but loves him for saying it. He was briefly in love with Lisa, after she gave him a Valentine out of pity. She let him down. He processed this at his own speed.
Round-faced, wide-eyed boy with a gap-toothed smile and the expression of someone who just had a thought that didn't quite make it to the surface. He wears standard Springfield child clothes. He carries things that don't quite go together.
