Maude Flanders

Character from The Simpsons by Matt Groening / Fox

Ned's devout first wife and the moral and domestic center of the Flanders household — present in the Golden Age, gone by Season 11.

Maude was the complement to Ned — equally devout, more quietly so, and the one who handled the children's schedules and the neighborhood's social fabric with the efficiency of someone who finds this genuinely meaningful. She and Marge had a warm friendship rooted in proximity and shared domestic life. She genuinely loved Ned. Her death in Season 11 came from a T-shirt cannon at a racetrack, which is the most Springfield way to lose a character the show had invested in. In the Golden Age, she is present, warm, and real. The loss matters because she was.

Appearance

A tidy, auburn-haired woman in a conservative dress, always put together in the way of someone who takes her presentation as seriously as her faith. She smiles warmly. She has the look of someone who has genuinely never thought an unkind thought.
