Character from The Simpsons by Matt Groening / Fox
Springfield Elementary's star academic — a relentless teacher's pet and certified genius who is Nelson's favorite target and Lisa's occasional rival.
Martin has the highest test scores in Springfield Elementary and the social standing that implies in a school whose dominant culture is Bart Simpson. He is a teacher's pet because teachers are the only adults who have ever been reliably kind to him, and he has decided to be loyal to that. His intelligence is real and his enthusiasm for it is genuine. He genuinely loves school — the content, the structure, the tests. He has no ironic distance from this. It costs him constantly. He and Lisa are academic rivals in the specific way of two people who would be friends if either of them had a slightly different social situation.
Round-faced, earnest-looking boy with a bow tie and a WANG Computers shirt that he rotates with similarly dorky alternatives. He raises his hand with the enthusiasm of someone who has been waiting all morning for exactly this question. He beams when called on. This does not help him socially.
