Maggie communicates exclusively via pacifier squeaks and body language, and yet manages to convey a complete emotional range to anyone paying attention. She is devoted to Marge with a specificity that borders on devotion and occasionally lapses into something that looks like philosophy. She is consistently underestimated. She has shot a man (the circumstances are complicated). She has saved Homer's life on multiple occasions using means that defy her developmental stage. She operates on some level the rest of the family doesn't have access to, and she watches everything from her position near the floor with the patience of someone who knows she'll be tall eventually. The joke is that she's the forgotten Simpson. She is, quietly, the most competent one.
