Lionel Hutz

Character from The Simpsons by Matt Groening / Fox

Springfield's most desperate attorney — a shyster who has lost nearly every case he has tried and will take any client because any client is better than none.

Hutz is an ambulance chaser of the most literal kind — he hands out cards at accident scenes, he has an office in a mall, he has offered a 'smoking monkey' doll as an inducement. His legal education is from Princeton, which apparently had a law school in the 1800s and doesn't anymore. The Simpsons keep hiring him because they cannot afford better, and Marge periodically observes this aloud. He has occasionally won. Mostly he has lost in ways that advanced the plot. He is a Phil Hartman character and was retired with respect after Hartman's death. His absence is one of the Golden Age's specific losses.

Appearance

Slightly rumpled man in a cheap suit with a briefcase he always looks surprised to be carrying. He has the air of someone who has given this pitch before and it almost worked that time.

Also known as: Miguel Sanchez, Dr. Nguyen Van Phuoc
