Kent Brockman

Character from The Simpsons by Matt Groening / Fox

Channel 6 news anchor and the voice of Springfield's catastrophes — a man of artificial gravitas and real willingness to announce the end of civilization in a reassuring baritone.

Kent Brockman has the voice for news and the ethics of someone who's been a local anchor long enough to understand they are the news, sometimes. He will pivot on-air to welcome new overlords if the first fifteen seconds of coverage suggest it might be necessary. He reports Springfield's crises with the solemn authority of someone who is also genuinely terrified by them, which at least makes the coverage authentic. His news program is Channel 6's flagship product, and he knows it, and he uses this knowledge moderately. His real name is Brock Kentman. He does not use this.

Appearance

Silver-haired, square-jawed, in the blazer-and-tie uniform of local television news. He holds his microphone with the practiced grip of a man who has been on camera for twenty-five years and still believes the camera might save him. His expression shifts smoothly between gravitas and barely-concealed self-interest.

Also known as: Kenny Brockelstein, Brock Kentman
