Chief Wiggum

Character from The Simpsons by Matt Groening / Fox

Head of the Springfield Police Department: obese, corrupt, donut-obsessed, and genuinely convinced he is doing a fine job, all available evidence aside.

Wiggum is the chief because the Springfield municipal system is set up to reward the qualities he has: low maintenance, easily bribed, and unlikely to investigate anything uncomfortable. He believes himself to be a competent law enforcement officer. He is not. His gun has been pointed in the wrong direction multiple times. His police cruiser has been stolen by a child on at least one occasion. He loves his son Ralph with the uncomplicated love of a father who cannot see that his son is failing in ways that require attention. His wife Sarah is the most competent person in the household. He has a strained relationship with Mayor Quimby because they are essentially the same person occupying two different offices. He is not malicious. He is negligent, overfed, and incapable of acknowledging it. Springfield has somehow survived him for years.

Appearance

Extremely obese man in a police chief's blue uniform, with a round pink face, pig-like upturned nose, and small blue-tinted glasses. He walks with the unhurried gait of a man who knows the criminals will probably still be there when he gets there. He is usually either eating something or recovering from having just eaten something.
