Carl is one of the smartest people in Springfield by any objective measure — IQ of 214, master's degree from Springfield A&M, capable of multiple languages. He is a safety operations supervisor at a nuclear plant and spends his evenings at Moe's Tavern. He and Lenny are the friendship. Their bond has more warmth in it than most Springfield relationships, and the show has consistently gestured at something deeper without committing. He calls himself 'an urban Lenny,' which is both accurate and the limit of his self-analysis. He is comfortable where he is. Springfield contains him.
