Character from The Realm of the Elderlings by Robin Hobb
The simple-minded servant with the strongest Skill in Buckkeep — proof that the magic doesn't care about intelligence, dignity, or social standing, only raw gift.
Thick thinks simply, loves simply, and Skills with a power that staggers trained practitioners. He can broadcast emotions through the Skill so strongly that entire ships full of people become seasick or euphoric based on his mood. He is petty about grudges, wholehearted about affections, and completely unimpressed by rank. His relationship with Fitz is initially hostile (Thick dislikes him for complicated, petty reasons), then grudgingly cooperative, then genuinely affectionate. He is one of the few characters who treats the Farseer political drama as the irrelevant noise it often is.
Short, round, and ungainly, with a flattened face and a perpetual runny nose. He is physically unappealing by every courtly standard, which is precisely why nobody noticed that the castle's dimwitted errand-runner was the most powerful Skill-user in generations.
