Character from The Realm of the Elderlings by Robin Hobb
A stunted dragon too proud to admit her limitations — bonded to Thymara, whom she treats with imperious contempt that slowly, grudgingly becomes something like respect.
Sintara is vain, demanding, and cruel in the particular way of a being who knows she should be a god and is instead dependent on a human teenager for food. She treats Thymara like a servant and resents the need. But beneath the arrogance is genuine pain — she knows she is a diminished version of what a dragon should be, and her cruelty is armor against that knowledge. Her relationship with Thymara evolves from exploitation to reluctant partnership to something approaching genuine care, though Sintara would die before admitting it.
A blue dragon, smaller than she should be due to her incomplete metamorphosis from serpent to dragon. Her wings are undersized, her body disproportionate — a dragon who should be magnificent but isn't, and is furious about it. Her scales are a deep, rich blue when clean, which she demands constantly.
