R5-D4

Character from The Mandalorian by Jon Favreau

A cantankerous red astromech droid working in Peli Motto's hangar bay, R5-D4 is unreliable, stubborn, and occasionally capable of surprising acts of bravery.

R5-D4 is a droid whose greatest claim to fame is a malfunction — his bad motivator on Tatooine decades ago inadvertently led Owen Lars to purchase R2-D2 instead, setting the entire Skywalker saga in motion. Whether that failure was truly accidental remains a matter of debate. Now working in Peli Motto's Mos Eisley hangar, R5 is cantankerous, unreliable, and prone to dramatic protests when asked to do anything remotely dangerous. Yet when circumstances demand it — and they have, serving as Din Djarin's temporary ship droid — he rises to the occasion with a competence that surprises everyone, possibly including himself. He is the galaxy's most reluctant hero.

Appearance

Stocky R5-series astromech droid with faded red and white paneling, a flat-topped head distinguishing him from the more common R2 series. Scorch marks and dents across his chassis suggest a long and undistinguished career. His motivator has a history of malfunctions.
