The Third House

Location from The Locked Tomb by Tamsyn Muir

Ida — the royal planet of glamour, wealth, and flesh magic, ruled by twin princesses who between them have one necromantic talent and zero impulse control.

The Third House is the Nine Houses' aristocracy — politically connected, fashionably dressed, and specializing in flesh magic (animaphilia). They consider themselves the civilized center of the system, which annoys everyone else. Their necromantic specialty involves manipulating living tissue — growing, reshaping, and transferring biological material. The Third House's darkest secret was that Coronabeth, their presented necromancer, had no power at all — Ianthe was the real necromancer, hidden in her twin's shadow for twenty-two years.

Appearance

The Third House planet Ida is wealthy, beautiful, and politically powerful. Its culture prizes aesthetic perfection, courtly intrigue, and the kind of casual glamour that comes from never having worried about money. The royal palace is all marble, gilt, and the understated excess of people who consider austerity a character flaw.
