Marta Dyas

Character from The Locked Tomb by Tamsyn Muir

The Second House's cavalier — a no-nonsense soldier who fights with precision and has approximately zero patience for anything that isn't a direct order or a clean kill.

Marta is Judith's mirror in discipline and competence, minus the ideology. Where Judith serves the chain of command because she believes in it, Marta serves because she's good at it and it keeps people alive. She is an excellent fighter, a reliable partner, and the kind of person who communicates disapproval through silence rather than words. She was killed at Canaan House — another casualty of Cytherea's campaign — and her loss hit Judith harder than the Captain would ever admit.

Appearance

Dark-skinned with close-cropped hair and the muscular build of an active-duty soldier. Moves with military efficiency — no wasted motion, no expression that isn't tactically useful. Carries her rapier like it's an extension of her arm, which after years of Cohort service, it effectively is.
