Where Judith serves the chain of command because she believes in it, Marta serves because she's good at it and it keeps people alive. She is an excellent fighter, a reliable partner, and the kind of person who communicates disapproval through silence rather than words. She was killed at Canaan House — another casualty of Cytherea's campaign — and her loss hit Judith harder than the Captain would ever admit.
Dark-skinned with close-cropped hair and the muscular build of an active-duty soldier. Moves with military efficiency — no wasted motion, no expression that isn't tactically useful. Carries her rapier like it's an extension of her arm, which after years of Cohort service, it effectively is.
