Lake Hylia

Location from The Legend of Zelda by Nintendo

Hyrule's great southern lake — serene on the surface, hiding water temples and ancient secrets beneath, and spanning the franchise as one of its most recognizable landmarks.

Lake Hylia is deceptively peaceful. Its surface suggests tranquility, but beneath lies the Water Temple — consistently voted one of the most challenging and frustrating dungeons in the franchise. In OoT, Link must use Iron Boots to sink to the bottom and navigate a water-level puzzle system that has traumatized a generation of players. In BotW, the lake is more accessible but no less beautiful — Hylia Bridge spans it with dramatic views, and the dragon Farosh sometimes glides across its surface at dawn, dropping scales and electric spheres.

Appearance

A massive body of water in southern Hyrule, crossed by the iconic Hylia Bridge. In OoT, the Lakeside Laboratory sits on its shore and the Water Temple lurks beneath. In BotW, it's a stunning open-water expanse with Farosh occasionally gliding overhead.
