A vast ocean hiding a drowned kingdom beneath its waves — the gods flooded Hyrule to stop Ganondorf, and Wind Waker's world sails over the ruins.
The Great Sea is what happened after the gods decided Ganondorf couldn't be stopped by mortal means: they flooded all of Hyrule, trapping Ganondorf, the Triforce, and the old kingdom beneath the waves. The surviving populations scattered across islands and evolved — Kokiri became Koroks, Zora became Rito, and the history was lost. Link sails the sea with the King of Red Lions, discovering that the ocean floor holds Hyrule Castle, the Master Sword, and a king who has been waiting for the right hero. The Great Sea is beautiful, lonely, and melancholy — an entire civilization's grave disguised as an adventure playground.
An endless ocean dotted with small islands, each with unique features — forests, volcanoes, towns, fortresses. The King of Red Lions sails its surface. Old Hyrule lies drowned and preserved beneath the waves, accessible only through a portal.
