The Triforce

Item from The Legend of Zelda by Nintendo

Three golden triangles left by the goddesses — Power, Wisdom, and Courage — the divine force that grants wishes, splits among the worthy, and has been fought over since the beginning of time.

The Triforce was created by the three Golden Goddesses — Din (Power), Nayru (Wisdom), and Farore (Courage) — when they created Hyrule, then left it in the Sacred Realm. It grants the wish of whoever touches it, but if the person's heart is unbalanced, the Triforce splits — the piece matching their strongest trait remains while the other two scatter to their destined bearers. Ganondorf's wish split it: he kept Power, Zelda received Wisdom, and Link received Courage. This split is the franchise's core mythology — three pieces, three bearers, an eternal cycle of conflict. Gods cannot use the Triforce. Only mortals can. This is why Hylia reincarnated.

Appearance

Three golden equilateral triangles arranged to form a larger triangle, with an inverted triangle void at the center. Each piece glows on the hand of its bearer — Power on the right hand, Wisdom on the left, Courage varies. The symbol appears on everything from castle walls to Link's gauntlets.
