King Rauru

Character from The Legend of Zelda by Nintendo

The first King of Hyrule — a Zonai whose fatal flaw was mercy, whose greatest act was sacrifice, and whose right arm powered a hero ten thousand years after his death.

Rauru was kind, modest, and strategically brilliant — everything a founding king should be except paranoid enough. He deliberately allowed Ganondorf into his kingdom believing he could monitor the Gerudo king's ambitions, and that misplaced trust cost Sonia her life and Hyrule its peace. After Sonia's murder, something in Rauru hardened. He assembled the Sages, fought Ganondorf directly, and when the Demon King proved too powerful to destroy, Rauru used his right arm to physically impale and seal Ganondorf's heart beneath Hyrule Castle. The effort killed him. His body decomposed over millennia, but his arm retained its power — becoming the Zonai appendage that replaced Link's destroyed arm in TotK. His voice is calm, warm, and reassuring even in spirit form. He found peace only after Link's victory, reuniting at last with Mineru.
